Church
Conference To Be Held December 11th John Ross Thompson – November 28,
2007
As the year 2007 comes to a close in a month, many of us will be
reflecting on what has happened and what we will be doing during the
next calendar year. The way we do that in our church is through our
annual Church Conference.
This year’s Church Conference will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday,
December 11. This is a change from the previously scheduled date of
December 3. At the meeting, Lansing District Superintendent Benton
Heisler will preside. We will officially elect our church leaders,
set the pastors’ salaries and housing allowances, act on a
recommendation for a certified lay speaker (Jeff Linderman), and
consider a motion to use most of our parsonage escrow fund to pay
down church building debt.
A Church Conference book, to be distributed at the meeting, will
summarize the ministries of our church. These reports, from our
various leaders, will report on ministries during the past year, as
well as look forward to 2008. Even for those of us most active in
the church, they are a helpful reminder of the many ways UUMC
reaches out in our community and in the world.
In this 50th year of our congregation, we have reviewed much of
UUMC’s history. Our archives contain Church Conference reports from
the years 1957 to 2006. This Golden Year Church Conference report
will add to that collection. In addition, these reports will be on
the church website for all to see.
Join us if you can on December 11 for this celebration of all
that we are! If you can’t be there, pick up a copy of the Church
Conference book after that date.
