GOD IS
COMING SERMON SERIES John Ross Thompson – November 20,
2007
The holiday season, Thanksgiving to Christmas, brings the end of
one church year and the beginning of another. We wrap up the church
worship year November 25 with Christ the King Sunday, and begin a
new year with the season of Advent, this year beginning on December
2.
I invite you to join me in worship for a five-part sermon series
called “God Is Coming,” taking us all the way from Thanksgiving
season through Christmas Eve.
November 25 I will preach on “God Is Coming – Who’s in Charge
Here?”, based on images of Christ as our King, and reflecting on how
and why we need a spiritual leader.
December 2, as Advent begins, we will confirm 17 young persons
and the sermon will be based on their lives and beliefs, titled “God
Is Coming – Look Around You!”. These young persons will lead most of
the parts of our worship service, and will serve Holy Communion to
us.
December 9, the message will be “God Is Coming – Look For Fire!”,
as we recall John the Baptist’s foretelling the power of Christ.
December 16 will be Music Sunday, with our choirs leading us in
the glorious music of Advent and Christmas, and a homily on “God Is
Coming – Go and Tell What You Hear and See”.
December 23, Christmas Sunday, Pastor Kennetha Bigham-Tsai will
be preaching.
December 24, Christmas Eve, at 7 and 9 p.m., I will be preaching
on “God Has Come – Let the Earth Rejoice!”. Special Christmas music
and candlelight will be at both worship services, with Holy
Communion at 9 p.m.
Join us at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday to make this season a spiritual
time of growth. Watch for our many other holiday activities,
including Advent Bible study, based on the scripture readings for
the following Sunday, every Wednesday at noon and 6:30 p.m. in the
Youth Lounge downstairs.
I look forward to this intense time of growing closer to God and
to each other. I'll see you in worship!
