Making Your Holidays Holy Days

Advent and Christmastime Studies 2008

If you want to get the Grinch out of your holidays and Christ back in, join Pastor Kennetha Bigham-Tsai and others for two opportunities for spiritual nurture during the holiday season. On Wednesday nights, beginning November 5, we will meet for a study entitled Hurry Less Worry Less at Christmastime, based on the book by Judy Pace Christie. Through this study, we will seek to bring faith to the center of our holidays while at the same time finding ways to simplify preparations so that the holidays don’t become stressful events. The study will be scripturally based and practically focused. We will…

  • Assess our holidays to see why they can sometimes be times of stress rather than times of comfort and joy.
  • Discuss ways to spend less, eat less, fret less and be more grateful.
  • Create new traditions that can help make the holidays a time for spiritual growth and growth in our relationships with loved ones.

A Prophetic Vision of Advent

Hope for Presence, Peace, Justice and Joy

Beginning on Tuesday, November 18, at 12:30 and 6: 30 pm we will join with one another to look at some major themes of Advent. This study will focus on ways the Israelite prophets viewed their faith as having direct application to the realities of their time. What they saw through the lens of faith was a hoped-for Messiah who would be with them and would bring peace, justice, and joy into their lives.

We will use the prophetic texts to tap into the vision of these ancient prophets and to follow their example. We will look at the meaning of Christ’s coming and of his coming again in the context of our times. And, we will reflect on the presence, peace, justice and joy that are promised us in Christ.

The dates are as follows:

                        Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

  • November 18--Advent as Presence
  • December 2--The Advent of Peace
  • December 9--The Advent of Justice
  • December 16--Joy At the Coming of Christ
