WHO IS
A LEADER?
FROM YOUR PASTOR
February 21, 2007 from John Ross Thompson
I discover in the church that many persons are reluctant to call
themselves leaders. Even though they have major responsibility in
their family, at work, or where they study, they see other persons
as the leaders.
To me, a leader is someone who equips others to fulfill their
potential, not someone who is in control of others. In the church
especially, leadership means serving God and helping others to do
the same. For example, I consider myself a good leader when I have
encouraged others to lead, not when others think that I am leading.
If you’ve been wondering why the church doesn’t do more to help each
of us become stronger leaders, you can stop wondering. We have a
great opportunity this Saturday, February 24, when Linda Burson, a
ministry consultant on the staff of the West Michigan Conference,
will be with us for a Leadership Day. The focus will be on helping
each of us to be better leaders in this church. I know Linda
first-hand from our six years together on the conference staff. She
will make the day enjoyable and meaningful.
Come for part or all of the day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Child care
will be provided.
If you feel you don’t know the Bible well enough, or you don’t have
the gifts to lead others, or any other reason that keeps you from
playing a more active role in the church, this workshop is for you.
Come, and be surprised by what God can do through you!
