Higher Education/Campus Ministry Work Area

Minutes Monday, February 11, 2008. 7 p.m. Jordan Room

Present: Monty Engelmann, Karen Firos, Christi Hemming,

Linda Good Mikols, John Ross Thompson, Tim Tuthill.

1. Devotion

Group sang "I Love You Lord" from "The Faith We Sing."

2. Have a heart brunch went well. Food was terrific. One hundred and fifty five people attended and $523 was made for the Wesley Foundation Spring work trip.

3. There was a conflict with student recognition Sunday but the conflict was resolved and the date remains April 27, 2008.

4. Reports and review of our HiEd program.

A. Africa U. Support ( )

No report.

B. Budget (Christi)

The van signage dollar amounts have been properly transferred paying for the work done.

The peer ministry support check needs to be received in the Wesley office by April 1.

C. College/University Student-UUMC Roster (Monty)

A sign-up sheet was put out at the Have-A-Heart and garnered information on two students. E-mails or notes were sent to the parents of the 2006 and 2007 graduating H.S. seniors and yielded information on six more students. Information is continuing to come in from these efforts. The data will be entered into the new church membership software to be initiated in a month. We will also create our own HiEd e-mail list for student communication.

F. Connections Meal project (Linda)

Connections Supper will be Sunday March 30, at 5:30 p.m. The menu will be Lasagna (meat and vegetable). The food will be assembled on Sat. 03-29-08 and baked just before the meal on Sunday. We will need a bulletin announcement, sign-up on the one-stop and special contacts for individual congregation members. Final details will be settled at the March meeting.

G. Merit Scholarships, (Monty)

Deadline April 6, Evaluate on the 14th. Monty still has to contact Chris Darling and get the list of H.S. graduating seniors for 2008 and send each Merit Award information. The initial announcements have been made and applications are available.

H. Methodist Universities and College information &

Student Recognition Sunday. April 27, 2008. (Monty)

Ian Weibel was e-mailed and he has the posters used for Student Recognition Sunday. He will bring them to the church soon because he is once more working in Lansing. Some of these will have to be updated or revised. (See #3)

J. Seminary Student Support Project. ( )

No seminarians

K. Student e-mails. (J. J.)

An occasional first time attender comes and JJ sends them a welcoming e-mail.

L. Van Project.- (Don)

M. Web Page, Kiosk (Monty)

Monty is having some program incompatibility problems and needs to contact Peter Hickman for advice. The main page is relatively up to date but Monty is unable to update the HiEd minutes listings.

N. Wesley support Letter.(J.J.)

Letter was signed by HiEd members and sent to the conference Council on Ministries.
